After reading “Emily, Gone” by Bette Lee Crosby I want to get my hands on every book she has ever written! So well written, well thought out, written in a great style, a beautiful cover and a story that could come from a news headline. A story of loss, and pain, but so much love. Beautiful. Emotional. Amazing. – Green Gables Book Reviews
Wow! I have seen Bette Lee Crosby books before but have not had the opportunity to read one. I have been missing out! This book brings out so many emotions!
First, things first, the cover is beautiful and the style the book is written in is one I love to read.
The story begins in 1971. There’s a music festival in town and it is a bigger event than anyone could have imagined. The attendees seems to take over the town and the town was not prepared to handle the number of people. Loud music takes over the Dixon’s life in their quiet home, near the venue. Rachel tries everything she can to soothee baby Emmy, but the sounds are unfamiliar and no one in the Dixon home gets much sleep during the event. Finally, thankfully, a storm moves in and the loud sounds of the concert are muffled by the thunder. The family is finally able to get some sleep!
Rachel wakes the next morning and can’t believe baby Emmy let her sleep in! She goes to her crib and is shocked that the crib is empty! Where is her beautiful baby girl? Who has taken her! And why?
All through the concert, Vicki has not been focused on the music, but instead on doing whatever she can to lessen her feelings of loss of her baby’s recent death. She doesn’t care that she has smoked too much and doesn’t care that her boyfriend thinks she’s done something wrong, all she cares about is that an opportunity was there to make herself feel better, so she took it.
Three women’s lives become forever changes in this story and the love, loss, and pain they all experience is immense. Well written. read this book! 5 stars!
