“The Making of a Mom” by Kim Severn
The Making of a Mom–This book is hard to read without feeling empathy for Kim Severn, Author, and her husband, Nate. After a very difficult first pregnancy and other health issues after the birth of their son, Kim starts to feel a strong desire to have another child. Devastatingly, because of previous health issues, doctors recommend against another pregnancy. This leads them on an adoption journey.
The story of their adoption process is agonizing. There are many things that don’t feel right to Kim and Nate along the way, but they feel like they have to keep comments to themselves to stay on the good side of the adoption agency. Then, at several crucial times, the adoption agency leaves them on their own to work through issues with their baby’s birth parents. Even though Kim breaks down several times in the course of this process, she is somehow able to remain her composure when it matters most. She puts their daughter’s well-being first, even at the scolding of the adoption agency and the birth parents.
