“The Wife Upstairs” by Rachel Hawkins

“Add recent release, “The Wife Upstairs” to your shopping list. Hawkins has written a book with suspense, surprise, and wonder of whom is playing who all the way to the ending! -Green Gables Book Reviews

Highly recommended!

Reviewer Thoughts: I love the style this book is written in. Books with viewpoints written by different people in the book always seem to draw me in! I also like that this book leaves a bit of wonder at the end but yet it isn’t a cliffhanger. Different reviewers are offering a variety of thoughts on this book. I loved it!

Here’s the first part of my review of the book: Jane is just a regular girl with a dog-walking job in a fancy neighborhood. Except that her name isn’t really Jane, she frequently steals things from her clients and doesn’t want any of them to know anything about her.

My review: Jane is just a regular girl with a dog-walking job in a fancy neighborhood. Except that her name isn’t really Jane, she frequently steals things from her clients and doesn’t want any of them to know anything about her.

Jane has been quietly listening to some neighborhood gossip and gathering all the information that she can. The neighborhood women are all talking about their neighbor, newly widowed Eddie. Jane is learning how his wife and her best friend tragically died in a boating accident. When Jane and Eddie meet, they both feel a connection and are drawn to each other.

Soon, Jane is no longer the dog-walker, but instead one of the girls living in the neighborhood, planning events and going to fancy fundraisers. She is working hard to be Jane, not Bea’s replacement. She changes how she dresses and tries to become one of the girls.

When Eddie finds out she has kept a big secret from him, things begin to change between them. When Jane starts asking questions about strange sounds in the house, Eddie always has an answer. Trust between them is broken. Who is telling the truth? And, what are the sounds coming from upstairs when Eddie isn’t home?
